Passport applications
For a renewal or a first passport, you apply and pay on the NIS portal, passportintl.immigration.gov.ng, then book biometrics at appointments.immigration.gov.ng. At the appointment you hand over a £20 postal order for the administrative fee. The High Commission says there is no physical collection once biometrics have been taken, so the passport is posted back in the Royal Mail C4 special delivery envelope you supply.
The documents to bring are in the guide to renewing a Nigerian passport from the UK.
The High Commission charges £150, also by postal order, to replace a lost, stolen or damaged passport. You still apply and pay on the NIS portal, and you need a police report and a guarantor among other documents. The full list is on the High Commission's passport requirements page.
If Royal Mail could not deliver your passport, the High Commission publishes a list of returned passports and asks the people named on it to collect theirs from the High Commission.
Extra passport sessions in October 2026
The High Commission and NIS are running a Special Passport Intervention Exercise from 6 to 30 October 2026 in four cities.
| City | Venue |
|---|---|
| Manchester | Nigeria House, 23 Platt Lane, Manchester M14 5NE |
| London | 56-57 Fleet Street, London EC4Y 1JU |
| Cardiff | Western Leisure Centre, Ely, Cardiff CF5 5HJ |
| Aberdeen | Hilton Convention Centre, 13 Smithfield Road, Aberdeen AB24 4NR |
You book through the form linked from the notice at the foot of the High Commission's website. Bring your passport application form, payment receipt, appointment slip, old passport and a prepaid Royal Mail C4 special delivery envelope. For these sessions the £20 administrative fee can be paid by postal order or on the High Commission's e-payment site.
Emergency Travel Certificate
An Emergency Travel Certificate covers an immediate one-way journey to Nigeria only, and is valid for 30 days from the date of issue. The fee is £120, paid by postal order addressed to the Nigeria High Commission. The requirements page says the opening hours for Emergency Travel Certificates are 9:30am to 1:00pm and no appointment is required. The High Commission asks you not to apply if your passport is still valid.
Visas are not handled at the High Commission
The High Commission says visa applications are no longer submitted at the High Commission but at Online Integrated Solutions (OIS), 56-57 Fleet Street, London EC4Y 1JU, and applicants no longer pay a processing fee to the High Commission.
Other consular services and fees
The consular section says a £20 administrative charge applies to all consular services, and payments are not refundable.
| Service | Fee |
|---|---|
| Police check from Nigeria | £15 for the document plus a £30 processing fee |
| Letter of non-impediment to marry | a £20 service charge plus a £15 processing fee |
| Pensioner's attestation letter | £45 in total (a £20 administrative charge plus a £25 processing fee) |
| Authentication of a Nigerian marriage, birth or death certificate | £20 per item plus a £20 processing fee |
These are paid by postal order made out to the Nigeria High Commission London. Documents from Nigeria must be authenticated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Abuja before the High Commission will authenticate them.
Renouncing Nigerian citizenship cannot be completed in London. The High Commission says applicants must make that request in Nigeria.
